Telangana DGP Appoints Mohammed Siraj as DSP After CM’s Promise Following T20 World Cup Win

Indian fast bowler Mohammed Siraj has been appointed as a DSP by the Telangana Government. On Friday, the state’s Director General of Police (DGP) officially presented him with the appointment letter. Previously, boxer Nikhat Zareen, a two-time world champion, was also appointed as a DSP.
The Telangana government announced Mohammed Siraj’s appointment as DSP. After India’s T20 World Cup win this year, Chief Minister A. Rivanth Reddy directed officials to offer Siraj a government job and allot him a plot of land.
In the 2024 T20 World Cup, Siraj played three matches for India, taking one wicket in the game against Ireland. He conceded 25 runs against the USA and 19 runs against Pakistan.
Siraj has been rested for the upcoming T20 match against Bangladesh, as well as the three-match T20 series against them. The final match of the series will take place at the Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium in Hyderabad on Saturday. Mayank Yadav and Harshita Rana have been included in the squad in his absence. In the two-match Test series against Bangladesh, Siraj took four wickets.
Mohammed Siraj’s international career is notable. The 30-year-old fast bowler has represented India in 28 Tests, 44 ODIs, and 16 T20s, with 76 wickets in Tests, 71 in ODIs, and 14 in T20s. Additionally, he has taken 93 wickets in 93 IPL Matches.
Siraj has also been named in India’s squad for the upcoming three-match home series against New Zealand, where he will lead the pace attack alongside Jasprit Bumrah, Arshdeep Singh, and Akash Deep.
Bumrah Named Test Vice-Captain; Shami Ruled Out of New Zealand Home Series Due to Injury
The 15-member Indian squad for the Test series against New Zealand, starting on October 16, has been announced, along with four traveling reserves. Jasprit Bumrah has been appointed vice-captain.
No vice-captain was selected for the previous two-match series against Bangladesh, sparking speculation that the BCCI views Bumrah as a potential future Test captain after Rohit Sharma.
Fast bowler Mohammed Shami has not been included in the squad as he continues to recover from an ankle injury. Shami, who underwent surgery earlier this year, has been sidelined since the 2023 ODI World Cup final. Additionally, left-arm pacer Yash Dayal has also been ruled out due to injury. He was part of the squad for the Bangladesh series.
