India Achieves Record 232 Runs: Highest T20 Score, First Century by Indian Wicketkeeper, and 15 New Records Set

Several records were broken in the third T20 match between India and Bangladesh at the Rajiv Gandhi Stadium in Hyderabad. The Indian team posted an impressive 232 runs, powered by 22 sixes and 25 fours, setting a new record for the most runs in an innings with boundaries. India finished their innings at 297 for 6 in 20 overs, marking the highest-ever T20 total by a Test-playing nation and India’s highest T20 score.

Sanju Samson reached his century in just 40 balls, becoming the first Indian wicketkeeper to score a T20 century and recording India’s second-fastest century in T20 cricket. India also recorded their highest-ever powerplay score in this match.

1. India made its best T20 score. Team India won the toss at Uppal Stadium, chose to bat first, and scored 297 runs for the loss of 6 wickets. This is India’s best T20 score; before this, the team had scored 260 runs against Sri Lanka in 2017. This is also the best score among test-playing teams. After India, Afghanistan scored 278 runs against Ireland in 2019.

This was also the best score among the top teams. England scored 267 runs against the West Indies last year. Nepal holds the record for the highest score in T20. The team scored 314 runs against Mongolia in 2023. 

2. India achieved its highest T20 score. Winning the toss at Uppal Stadium, India opted to bat first and posted a massive total of 297 for 6. This surpasses their previous best of 260 runs against Sri Lanka in 2017 and also stands as the highest score by a Test-playing nation. Afghanistan follows with 278 runs against Ireland in 2019, while England’s highest is 267 against the West Indies last year. However, the overall T20 record is held by Nepal, who scored 314 runs against Mongolia in 2023.

3. India set a new record for the most boundaries in a T20 innings, hitting 47 in total. This surpasses the previous record of 43 boundaries, which was achieved by the Czech Republic against Turkey in 2019 and matched by Punjab against Andhra Pradesh last year.

4. India scored 10 or more runs in 18 of their 20 overs, setting a new record for the most overs with double-digit runs in a T20 innings. They scored 7 runs in the first over and 9 runs in the ninth, while every other over yielded more than 10 runs. Mehdi Hasan from Bangladesh was the only bowler to concede fewer than 10 runs in two of his overs. The previous record was held by Australia, who scored 10-plus runs in 17 overs against Sri Lanka in 2016.

5. Sanju Samson became the first Indian wicketkeeper to score a T20 century, reaching the milestone in just 40 balls. He was dismissed after scoring 111 runs off 47 deliveries, including 11 fours and eight sixes. Before this, the highest score by an Indian wicketkeeper in T20 was Ishan Kishan’s 89 against Sri Lanka in 2022.

6. Sanju Samson’s century in 40 balls is the second-fastest by an Indian in T20 cricket. The fastest remains Rohit Sharma’s 35-ball century against Sri Lanka in 2017.

7. India posted 152 runs for the loss of one wicket in the first ten overs during the Hyderabad match, marking their highest-ever score after ten overs. Their previous best was 117 runs against Sri Lanka in 2017. Overall, this is the third-highest score after ten overs in T20 history. Australia scored 156 runs in 9.4 overs against Scotland earlier this year, while Estonia recorded 154 runs for 4 wickets against Cyprus in 2024.

8. India scored 152 runs in the middle overs (7 to 16) while losing 2 wickets, marking the second-highest total in this phase of a T20 innings. Nepal holds the record with 163 runs for the loss of one wicket against Mongolia. Among Test-playing nations, India’s score is the highest in the middle overs.

9. India achieved the fastest team century in T20 International cricket, reaching 100 runs in just 7.1 overs. This surpasses their previous record of completing a century in 8 overs against the West Indies in 2019 at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.

10. Best Powerplay Score: India scored 82 runs for the loss of 1 wicket during the powerplay, achieving their highest powerplay score in T20 history. Previously, in the 2021 T20 World Cup, they managed only 82 runs for 2 wickets in 6 overs against Scotland.

11. Most Sixes in an Innings: India hit 22 sixes against Bangladesh, setting a record for the most sixes in an innings by the Indian team in T20 cricket. The previous record was 21 sixes against Sri Lanka in 2017. In the Men’s T20 format, Nepal holds the record with 26 sixes in an innings against Mongolia. Among Test-playing nations, India is tied with Afghanistan and South Africa for this record.

12. Most 200-Plus Scores: India scored over 200 runs for the second time in the series and the 37th time in T20 cricket. This achievement sets the record for the most 200-plus scores by any team in T20 history, surpassing the English team Somerset, which had 36 instances.

13. Fastest 200 Runs: India reached 200 runs in just 14 overs against Bangladesh, marking the second-fastest double-century in T20 innings. Last year, South Africa completed 200 runs in 13.5 overs against the West Indies.

14. Samson’s Five Consecutive Sixes: Sanju Samson hit five consecutive sixes in the 10th over of the innings against Rishad Hussain. After missing a six on the first ball, he went on to hit a six on each of the next five deliveries. This feat marks the most sixes hit by an Indian batsman in a single over in T20 cricket. The overall record belongs to Yuvraj Singh, who hit six sixes in a row against England’s Stuart Broad during the T20 World Cup in 2007.

15. India’s Largest Victory Over Bangladesh: India restricted Bangladesh to 164 runs after scoring 297 runs in their innings, winning the match by 133 runs. This victory marks India’s largest win over Bangladesh by run margin in T20 cricket, surpassing their previous victory by 86 runs in the second T20 of the series. Overall, this is India’s third-largest win, following their 168-run victory against New Zealand in 2023 and a 143-run win over Ireland in 2018. This match also represents the largest win margin recorded by any team against Bangladesh.
